MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I have a present for all of you, one I know some of you have been waiting for for some time now. Earlier this year I completed three carvings for a customer but could not show them here because they were Christmas gifts. This week the gifts were given so I can now reveal them to you, well one of them, sorry, I'm going to do one at a time.

This first one is called "Dave's Dilemma", Dave is big into hunting, has even gone on African Safaris, but it seems ever since he hired this new secretary his luck hunting has changed, and he jokes that she has put a hex on him. So in the carving he is in Africa and to his frustration he can't even pull his bow, he's resulted to standing on it trying to pull. One thing you can't see in the pictures is on the back of the hat band, in the zebra stripe, is the word "hex".
There are more pictures in the Photo Gallery, just click on the link to the right. Very fun carving to do, hope you enjoy it.

How things work

I don't have a new carving to show, yet, so I thought I'd explain how things work at By His Hands.
Right now all my work comes from people requesting pieces. They are usually gifts intended for family or co-workers, and this year there has been quite a few. Right now I am finishing up three for a customer, and they are giving them as gifts, so I can't really show them on my blog until the end person gets them.
So that's my predicament, I want to share with you what I'm doing... but I can't, yet. There may be some lag time between posts, I have a regular job and carve at night and days off, so I'm not pumping out carvings left and right, but I will have some pictures up soon though, I promise.

New and improved!

I recently finished a carving, (you can see it below), that my sister gave to a lady she works for. The gal, a lawyer at a big firm in downtown Grand Rapids, loved the carving and was showing it to everyone in the office. This is generating a bit of interest in my work and people are asking for more pictures of my past pieces. So in order to do that I am starting this new blog dedicated to just my carving "hobby", it is replacing my old blog of the same name. There will be postings of my latest pieces and a link to my photo gallery where you can see other work. I hope you will enjoy it, just be patient while I get it up and running.

The carving below is called "Court's Adjourned". The lady who it was for is retiring from a law firm and has a love for all the many flower pots she collects. Her briefcase is under a pot behind her, her shoes are in another, and she is just happy to be home.
